Host a Drive
Host a Donation Drive
LAYN serves over 2,000 homeless, runaway and foster youth per year through street outreach and shelter services. These youth often arrive with nothing but the shirts on their backs. You can help them get the items they need to survive everyday life by hosting your own donation drive. Hosting a donation drive at your office or organization, school, place of worship or other community group settings is a great way to involve your employees or community members in a meaningful cause, promote team spirit, and demonstrate your organization's commitment to the community. As an added bonus, it's easy to organize.
Host a Drive
Determine the types of items you’d like to collect from the list LAYN has created. (Click here for a list of current needs.) Then designate a place or two where people can drop off their contributions. Make a container specifically labeled for the use of the drive.
Use any method you would normally use to share information (e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, office message boards) to let people know of the organization, the youth we work for, and the necessary items. Don’t forget to announce it at social events or meetings. In fact, if you are hosting an event, an easy way to increase donations is to ask each guest to contribute an item on their way in.
A great way to increase investment in your drive is to create fun activities around it. Start a competition between departments or colleagues. Gather some colleagues and have a collection-box decorating party, and distribute the boxes at strategic locations.
Say Thank You!
Let the in-kind donors who contributed to the success of the drive know how well they did. Say thank you either through pictures, cards, or phone calls!
Please note that cash and gift card donations are also accepted. Gift cards can be used as prizes and incentives for youth, and often give them freedom of choice that they don’t often have.
Celebrate Your Success!
Don’t forget to thank your donors! Post pictures of your donations to Facebook or share in your group’s newsletter.
