The Los Angeles Youth Network’s Mental Health Department provides comprehensive mental health services to all of our youth and are managed and implemented by our therapists and case managers. Upon intake each youth is accessed for what their mental health and cultural needs will be and start addressing those needs right away. Every youth has an integrated permanency plan that includes a mental health component.

Runaway/homeless youth and those who are part of the foster care system have suffered disproportionately from trauma. Their negative and often painful experiences – at the hands of caregivers and exploitative strangers – have created wounds that run deep. Those experiences also have compromised the youth’s capacity to trust. LAYN’s mental health department and case management staff apply the tenets of trauma-informed care while delivering:

  • Group and individual therapy sessions
  • Family counseling and therapy
  • Recreational therapy
  • Arts therapy
  • Substance abuse counseling
  • Life coaching
  • Stress management
  • Coping skills
  • Violence prevention
  • Sexual health education
  • Conflict mediation and resolution
  • Community engagement and enrichment opportunities
